Firebird

Griffin Road built its reputation on high-end video production, helping brands tell stories through thoughtful creative and cinematic content. Over time, however, the team began to see an opportunity to create something new. Not because Griffin Road needed to change, but because some opportunities felt different enough to deserve a brand of their own.

The challenge wasn't creating an entirely separate company. It was creating a brand that could stand on its own while still feeling connected to the Griffin Road family. Something with its own personality, purpose, and identity, yet unmistakably born from the same creative DNA.

When we began exploring names and concepts, we found ourselves looking beyond the company itself and into the story behind the Griffin Road name.

While Griffin Road was originally named after a location, the griffin became an interesting place to start creatively. As a mythological creature made up of an eagle and a lion, the griffin has long represented strength, protection, and leadership. The more we explored that symbolism, the more it led us into the broader world of mythology and the creatures that have captured people's imagination for centuries.

That exploration eventually led us to the phoenix.

The symbolism immediately felt relevant. The phoenix has always represented renewal, transformation, and rebirth. For a company focused on helping brands create fresh content, tell new stories, and bring renewed energy to their marketing efforts, the connection felt natural.

Rather than using Phoenix directly, which carries obvious geographic associations, we began exploring adjacent names that still captured the spirit of the mythological bird. Firebird quickly rose to the top.

It carried the same symbolism of rebirth and transformation while feeling more distinctive and memorable as a brand. There was also something fitting about the name within the world of production itself. Cameras shoot. Directors call action. Crews prepare to capture a moment. Firebird felt energetic and creative, a name that belonged equally in mythology and on a production set.

Once the name was established, the next challenge was designing a visual identity that felt related to Griffin Road without simply becoming a variation of the existing logo.

The answer came from studying the shapes already present within the Griffin Road identity. The original mark utilized angular forms inspired by feathers and wings, creating a visual language that could be carried into the new brand. Drawing from those same forms, we developed a Firebird mark built from two interlocking F's. The symbol creates the silhouette of a bird in motion while subtly referencing the feather shapes found within the Griffin Road logo.

The goal was never to make the two brands identical. Instead, we wanted them to feel like members of the same family. Similar enough that you could see the relationship, but different enough that each brand could have its own presence.

Color became another way to reinforce that connection. Firebird's fiery bronze accent wasn't introduced as an entirely new color. It already existed within the Griffin Road palette as a tertiary brand color, making it a natural bridge between the two identities. Combined with Griffin Road's foundation of black, the result is a system that feels cohesive without feeling repetitive.

Looking back, Firebird became more than a logo or a name. It became an exercise in brand architecture, creating something new without abandoning what already existed. The strongest brand families don't require every company to look the same. Instead, they create a shared foundation that allows each brand to develop its own voice while remaining connected to a larger story.

That's ultimately what Firebird represents.

Not a replacement for Griffin Road, but an extension of it. A new chapter built from the same creative roots, designed to serve a different purpose while carrying forward the values and craftsmanship that made the original brand successful.

Different, but unified.

A Firebird born from the same mythology, creativity, and ambition that inspired Griffin Road in the first place. To give your content a little 🔥
